The LakeSmart season is upon us, and as always, we look forward to meeting new landowners and catching up with others as we tackle lake protection one property at a time.
It may be hard to believe that just one person’s lawn, eroding camp road, or unstable pathway could be a threat to something as large and enduring as a lake, but the collective impact of many similar sites can be a big one. All stormwater that travels into a lake carries sediment and phosphorus. Uncontrolled, this can lead to algae blooms, fish kills, and the loss of water quality and spawning habitat.
An easy way to learn more ways you can protect your lake is with a LakeSmart visit. Site visits are free, voluntary, non-regulatory and non-judgemental!
If you are a new property owner, considering work on your property, or just curious about what types of lake-friendly practices you can implement, a visit is highly recommended for all shorefront property owners. These visits provide site-specific guidance and personalized suggestions of Best Management Practices to best fit your property and land uses. Please also reach out if you would like a follow-up from a previous property visit.
