Another successful workshop in the books!

June 24, 2026

On June 4th, nineteen participants joined us for a gravel road maintenance training led by Jordan Kimball from the Maine DEP’s Nonpoint Source Training Center, along with retired State Soil Scientist David Rocque. Participants included local contractors, road association members, and landowners.

Key takeaways from the workshop were that (1) regular road maintenance is essential and (2) proper drainage is the single most important factor in preserving the condition and longevity of a gravel road. The Camp Road Maintenance Manual is an excellent resource for guidance on installing Best Management Practices (BMPs), but each gravel road presents unique challenges. For site specific questions, please contact our Land Use Coordinator, Ellie: gabrielle@30mileriver.org.

If you were unable to attend this workshop and would like to learn more, here is a recording of a previous workshop held by the Training Center. Thank you to everyone who joined us! This workshop was made possible by our Clean Water Act Grant for Androscoggin Lake*. Stay tuned for future training opportunities!

*Funding for these projects, in part, was provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under Section 319(h) or 604(b) of the Clean Water Act. The funding is administered by the Maine Department of Environmental Protection in partnership with EPA.
