By Lidie Robbins, Executive Director
Earlier this month, I joined three other Mainers on a trip to Washington, D.C. to meet with our federal delegation to talk about the importance of federal funding to protect our environment and our communities. The trip was organized by the Natural Resources Council of Maine and supported by the Environmental Defense Fund.
We met with Senator King as well as staff from the offices of Congressman Golden, Congresswoman Pingree, and Senator Collins. In our conversations with our elected officials, I shared stories and examples from our watershed to emphasize issues such as:
- The impacts and costs resulting from climate change – specifically related to road infrastructure and water quality;
- How federal funding through programs including FEMA, NOAA, and EPA make real impacts in our small, rural towns – urging them to support these programs; and
- The importance of upholding and strengthening the Clean Water Act.
See a short video from our trip here.
