Invasive Plant Program:
We run two programs to help keep our lakes free of invasive plants: The Courtesy Boat Inspection Program and Invasive Plant Patrol.
The Courtesy Boat Inspection Program (CBI) is a part of a statewide effort to prevent the spread of invasive aquatic plants. CBIs are the “first line of defense”, preventing plant fragments found hitchhiking on boats and trailers from entering our lakes. Both paid and volunteer CBIs work at boat launches throughout the watershed, talking with boaters and inspecting their watercraft as they launch and remove their boats. All plants found on boats, trailers and gear are removed, and suspicious plants are sent in for identification.

The Invasive Plant Patrol (IPP) is a program of the Maine Volunteer Lake Monitoring Program that aims to detect invasions early and implement a rapid response. Trained volunteers survey the lakes, usually by boat, looking for invasive plants.
